Experimental Cardiology

Experimental Cardiology is the specialty that focuses on studying the physiology of the heart and the circulation, the etiology and pathophysiology of cardiovascular diseases, as well as the development of new therapies for cardiovascular diseases. This department is led by prof.dr. D.J.G.M. Duncker.

Experimental Cardiology has a very integrated and multidisciplinary character. Research is often carried out on intact experimental animals, isolated heart preparations and vascular preparations. The research program is related to clinical pictures such as ischemic heart disease, myocardial infarction and heart failure. In a number of animal models the processes that play a part in this are studied with a view to clinical application in diagnosis and treatment.
